Expertise & Consulting

Investigation, architecture review, data security, and technical advisory

I help when an incident is unclear, an architecture choice carries real risk, or a security question needs an independent technical answer — including hands-on remediation when we agree it in scope.

Services

Focused consulting engagements

Scoped work with clear deliverables agreed before we begin. Implementation can be included when we define it in the engagement.

Service area

Cybersecurity Incident Investigation

Evidence-led analysis when something has gone wrong — or when you need to know whether it has.

  • Security incident analysis
  • Hacking investigation
  • Malware analysis and remediation guidance
  • Evidence-based technical findings

Who it is for

Security leaders, founders, and technical teams facing a suspected compromise, malware discovery, or uncertainty about how an intrusion happened.

Common problems

  • Unclear scope after a security alert or audit finding
  • Need for methodical malware or intrusion analysis
  • Pressure to separate confirmed facts from speculation

My approach

I start with the evidence you have, reconstruct what can be substantiated, and document findings in language both engineers and decision-makers can use. Remediation recommendations are prioritized by risk and operational reality — not a generic checklist.

What you receive

  • Technical investigation summary with confirmed findings and open questions
  • Malware or intrusion analysis notes where applicable
  • Prioritized remediation and hardening recommendations
  • Optional working session to walk stakeholders through the results

Service area

Security Architecture and Engineering

Design review and defensive engineering for systems that have to hold up in production.

  • Security design review
  • Cloud security
  • Data protection
  • Identity and access controls
  • Defensive security engineering

Who it is for

Engineering and security teams designing or operating cloud platforms, customer-facing applications, or data-sensitive services.

Common problems

  • Architecture decisions with unclear security trade-offs
  • Cloud or identity configurations that grew faster than controls
  • Need for practical defensive improvements, not only policy language

My approach

I review the system as it is built and operated — trust boundaries, identity, data flows, and failure modes — then recommend concrete engineering changes. The goal is defense that can be implemented and maintained by your team.

What you receive

  • Architecture / design review findings
  • Risk-ranked recommendations with implementation notes
  • Cloud, identity, or data-protection focus areas as scoped
  • Follow-up clarification on prioritized items

Service area

Data Privacy and Security

Sensitive-data discovery, access governance, and secure analytics or data handling before exposure becomes an incident.

  • Sensitive-data handling
  • Data access governance
  • Secure analytics pipelines
  • Scoped AI-security questions when requirements are clear

Who it is for

Product, data, and security teams managing sensitive customer or operational data — including teams introducing AI features where data exposure and access paths need review.

Common problems

  • Unclear data exposure in analytics or AI pipelines
  • Access paths that outpaced governance
  • Need for an independent review of data-handling and integration choices

My approach

I examine how data is collected, transformed, accessed, and used — including identity, retention, and abuse cases. AI-related questions are scoped to agreed capabilities. Recommendations stay grounded in your architecture and regulatory context without pretending to be legal advice.

What you receive

  • Data privacy / security review notes
  • Data-flow and access-risk observations
  • Practical control recommendations for engineering and governance owners
  • Scoped follow-up on high-priority gaps

Service area

Research and Technical Advisory

Independent technical judgment for research questions, assessments, and specialized learning.

  • Security research consulting
  • Independent technical assessments
  • Research collaboration
  • Specialized security training

Who it is for

Teams, researchers, and leaders who need an independent technical perspective, targeted assessment, or advanced training grounded in real investigation and engineering work.

Common problems

  • Research or product questions that need adversarial and engineering depth
  • Assessments that must stay independent of delivery vendors
  • Training that should reflect operational security practice

My approach

Advisory engagements are scoped around a clear question. I bring research discipline and production experience — including insider-threat and malware-related work — and keep recommendations evidence-based. Training is tailored; it is not a canned certification course.

What you receive

  • Scoped advisory memo or assessment readout
  • Research collaboration plan where applicable
  • Custom technical training outline and sessions as agreed
  • Documented next-step recommendations

Process

How I work

Engagements stay focused, evidence-led, and sized to the decision you need to make.

1. Scope the question

We clarify the system, the concern, constraints, and what a useful outcome looks like before deep work begins.

2. Examine the evidence

I work from artifacts, architecture, and operational context — separating confirmed findings from hypotheses.

3. Recommend what to do next

Deliverables emphasize prioritized actions your team can implement, with clear reasoning and residual risk called out.

Frequently asked questions

Do you take every engagement?

No. I take work where I can add clear technical value. If a request is outside my depth, better handled by counsel, or needs a capability I do not offer, I will say so.

Is this a retainer SOC or 24/7 incident response service?

No. These are scoped consulting and advisory engagements — investigation, review, engineering guidance, research advisory, or training — not a managed detection service with guaranteed response times.

Can you provide legal opinions or testify as counsel?

No. I provide technical findings and engineering recommendations. Legal strategy and opinions belong with qualified counsel.

Will you guarantee a specific security outcome?

No. Security work reduces uncertainty and risk; it does not eliminate it. I commit to rigorous analysis and clear recommendations within the agreed scope.

How do engagements usually start?

Send a short description of the system, the problem, and any constraints via the contact form. If it is a fit, we define scope, access needs, and deliverables before work begins.

Confidentiality and responsible engagement

Client systems, data, and findings are treated as confidential. Public case studies on this site are limited to material already published or sufficiently anonymized; they do not disclose private engagement details.

I do not request unnecessary access, and I will not perform intrusive testing outside an agreed scope. Responsible disclosure and least-privilege access are part of how I work.

Nothing on this page is a certification claim, compliance attestation, or legal advice.

Have a security problem to discuss?

Share the problem, the environment, and what decision you need to make. If I can help, we will define a focused engagement. If I cannot, I will say so quickly.
